Deploy Windows Live Movie Maker Live Essentials 2012 . Photo Line 2012 PCWindows

Contents of the article

Microsoft has released a new version of the Live Essentials Suite. So it’s time to write a new Blogpost about the news and where you can download the full installer.

In Windows 7 and 8  Microsoft has decided not to include any of the Windows Live programs ( Messenger, Mail, Writer, Sky Drive, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, Family Safety and Toolbar) if you have any user in your organization that want to use any of the programs you might want to deploy them using a MSI package or a script . But when you try to download the program from http://download.live.com you only get an .exe file that then will download the programs that you want to install.
To get the whole Windows Live package in one file use the links at the bottom of this page.

You now have the installer directly from Microsoft’s download site.

When you have downloaded the package install the features that you want to use on a test computer. When the installation has finished you will see that some of the programs have dependencies to each other. To get Movie Maker to work you have to have Photo Gallery installed. And to get Photo Gallery to work you need Microsoft SQL 2005 Compact edition. So don’t scratch your head to much when you see that Photo Gallery is installed even though you just selected Movie Maker

But where is the MSI

The MSI file is located in C:\Windows\InstallerTo find out exact what the files that you need is called you need to look in the registry.Do a search for live in the following registry key.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\
UserData\S-1-5-18\Products

Go through the folders that look like 5DD3EF3C1E293CE4DBB628D29DE99819 and look in the folder called InstallProperties until you find the right program. When you have found the program look for LocalPackage and there is the path to the MSI for that program.

If you are using the MSI to install the product remember the dependencies!!

Scripting the installation:

If you are more into scripting you can also do a scripted installation of the Windows Live Programs. To do that download wlsetup-all.exe the same way as above.

Here are the different command line options that you can play with:

Exampel: WLSetup-all.exe /AppSelect:Messenger /SILENT  /QUIET

Additional switches:

  • AppSelect:[ProductID]
  • log:log_location
  • NOToolbarCEIP (to not opt into Toolbar CEIP)
  • NOhomepage (to not set home page defaults)
  • Nolaunch (blocks all applications from running automatically after your installation is complete)
  • NOMU (to opt the computer into Microsoft Update)
  • nosearch (to not set search defaults)
  • q (for a silent/unattended install)

ProdID’s for the command line:
AllFamilysafetyMailMessenger (Should not be installed is replaced by Skype)MovieMakerwlsync (Sky Drive)

Writer

User Experience

When you deploy a program in an enterprise environment you don’t want the user to answer any questions that can generate a support call because the user don’t know what to answer.

Add the following to the registry using Group Policy Preferences or a script.

Suppress the EULA

String Value:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Common TOUVersion=”16.0.0.0″

Skip Sign in to the Windows Live account in Photo Gallery

This is not required so why prompt the user to do it

DWORD:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Photo GalleryValue Name= SignInRemindersLeft

Value Data= 0

Don’t ask the user to change file associations for picture file types

Multi-String Value
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\Library

System32\cmd.exe Runs on Startup - Forums - CNET

On a Windows computer, nothing is more frustrating than the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). Seemingly, they come from nowhere, and could occur when the user is doing something relatively innocuous, like surfing the Web. So could Windows drivers cause BSODs, and how can you stop them

Windows drivers could be at fault

Windows drivers aren’t always the root causes of BSODs, but they can be the cause of specific kind of crashes. Some users have their computers set to restart automatically after a crash. In this mode, you tend to miss the information on the BSOD screen, which can reveal the cause of the crash.
Now, to be fair, most people don’t know what “DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL” means, and that’s the kind of message you’ll find on a BSOD. So what does this mean, and what can you do about it

First, if your computer crashes regularly and seemingly randomly, and you want to get a better handle on what’s happening, you can configure your computer to stop on a crash, instead of restarting right away. This first step isn’t much, but it can give you a clue as to where to start debugging your crashing computer.

To configure your computer to bypass the automatic restart, go to the Control Panel and select System and Security. Under System, choose Advanced Settings. Under Startup and Recovery, uncheck the “Automatically Restart” option. “Ok” your way out of the control panel. After opting out of automatic restarts, a BSOD screen will stay in place until you manually restart the computer.

If you don’t want to manually restart, but you still want to know what the apparent cause of your crash was, you can retrieve log files and related splatter from the C:\Windows\Minidump file. You could find several files here, depending upon how often your system crashes. The files will contain, among other things, information about the root cause of your problem.

If you receive the “DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL” message, however, you can be sure that one of your drivers is not playing nice with the Windows kernel. Debugging driver failures can be challenging, but the log files should be able to identify which applications or services were running at the time of the crash. In some cases, software like anti-virus suites can cause kernel-level driver problems. Generally, these are well documented. Resolving these kinds of crashes may require you to uninstall your current anti-virus software, apply updates or patches, or switch products.

Windows includes a built in firewall and security option called Security Essentials. In many cases, this built in software will enable you to keep your system protected while you debug your crash problem and decide how to fix it.

You can also use Driver Detective to keep your drivers updated. Using outdated drivers can cause problems, especially after system updates have been applied. Driver Detective is one of the most often-downloaded, trusted Windows driver maintenance programs on the market today. Download your copy and automate the tasks of driver updates!

Deploy Windows Live Movie Maker Live Essentials 2012 .

UPDATE 2:

If you’re having difficulty setting default file associations using the dism import method then you can try the following alternative.

  1. Perform a basic Windows 10 deployment and set your file associations manually as per your preference
  2. Create an xml file of these file associations by running Dism /Online /Export-DefaultAppAssociations:\AppAssociations.xml
  3. Rename this file to OEMDefaultAssociations.xml
  4. Create a Configuration Manager Package with this file and distribute to your DP’s
  5. Add a Run Command Line step in your Windows 10 Task Sequence which copies the file to c:\Windows\System32
  6. Windows 10 will use this xml file when setting default file type associations

UPDATE:

I’ve updated the script I use to Powershell. Process is the same though.

Be aware that a lot of people have reported difficulty in setting file association defaults with them reverting back to their defaults at first login. This seems to be related to an update that was included in the April/May Windows 10 Cumulative Update. There is no fix presently that I’m aware of however some have had the issue and some do not which makes me think its related to the application itself and how its modifying the Windows 10 default file type settings. Hopefully this will either be addressed by developers releasing updated versions of their applications that conform with Microsoft’s expectations or Microsoft releasing an update to address the issue.

  1. Create a ps1 script with the following contents: dism.exe /online /Import-DefaultAppAssociations:$PSScriptRoot\AppAssociations.xml
  2. Copy that script to a package folder with your application associations xml file
  3. Add a Task Sequence step to execute the script

With Windows 10 now approaching its 2 month anniversary since RTM, I have finally finished the reference image our agency is going to use. Its taken quite a few attempts to get things right so hopefully some of my approaches to implementing solutions to some common issues will save you some time and effort.

Firstly lets establish how I’m creating my reference image. I’m using two Hyper V Virtual Machines running on a solid state drive.

1 x Server 2012 R2 with MDT 2013 Update 1 Build 8298

1 x Server 2012 R2 running a WSUS instance

Then running a pretty standard Build and Capture task sequence with LTISuspend.wsf to allow for some minor changes. With that out of the way – lets talk about how I’m setting my default file associations.

By default Windows 10 has a number of default associations which you may not wish to keep. For example, by default the PDF extension is associated with Microsoft Edge so if your deploying a 3rd party PDF reader, you’re most likely going to want to deal with this. Some other file types you may want to change may include what application is associated with photos and videos as by default these are associated with the built in modern applications. You may also want to change the default browser from Edge to Internet Explorer 11.

You can control file type associations with group policy and there are quite a few blogs already about this. I’ve chosen not to use this approach as it enforces a baseline set of associations and I want my environment to be flexible to allow for variation if needed.

  1. On a reference computer running Windows 10, install all of your standard operating environment applications then set your default programs as per your preference.
  2. Once finished run an elevated powershell instance and  type Dism /Online /Export-DefaultAppAssociations:\AppAssociations.xml
  3. Next create a new Configuration Manager package that includes this xml file and distribute it to your DP’s. You can edit the file if you need to make further changes. Note that you don’t need to create a program.
  4. Now we need to create two new Run Command Line steps in our Windows 10 Configuration Manager Task Sequence. One to copy the xml file locally to the target workstation and a second to execute the DISM import command. I’ve added these steps to my OSD Results and Branding group section of my Task Sequence. Make sure you disable 64-bit file system redirection otherwise your DISM import command will error out.
  5. That’s it! You will now have a reference image that has a default set of file type application associations DriverGenius Pro

Petites astuces pour Kobo Glo. - Loto Edition

Update 3/5/2015: See our related post: Windows 8.1 and the ASMedia USB 3.1 XHCI 1.1 Host Controller

Important Notice: As of Windows 8.1, we don’t recommend replacing the in-box Windows USB 3.0 stack with the Intel Windows 7 stack, as described in this post. This post is being kept for historical background, but we recommend working with your computer manufacturer and/or Microsoft on any remaining issues with the built-in Windows 8.1 USB 3.0 stack. Feel free to also comment below if problems remain but Plugable cannot offer technical support or take any responsibility for any issues this process may cause to your computer. Continue at your own risk.

One of the new features of Windows 8 is the built in XHCI host controller software and USB stack. While this brings some benefits like UASP support, there are some devices that currently don’t work with the Microsoft stack on the Intel USB 3.0 host controller. This can be fixed by forcing Windows to use the Intel USB 3.0 host controller drivers instead of the built in stack.

*NOTE* These instructions are only for machines with an Intel eXtensible Host Controller. Look for the Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers in Device Manager.

First, download the latest driver package from Intel. It’s currently at version 1.0.6.245 and can be downloaded from the following link:

Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver rev. 1.0.6.245

Once the download has finished, extract the .zip file to a known location.

Now download these two .inf files which have been modified to allow the Intel driver to install on Windows 8:

We are going to replace the existing versions of these two files with the ones we just downloaded. Place the files in the following directory of the unzipped driver package and click yes when Windows warns that we are over writing a file with the same name:

Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver\Drivers\Win7\x64\

This will update these two infs with the modified versions that will allow the Intel driver to install on Windows 8 when the Host Controller and USB hub drivers are updated.

To install the Intel drivers in place of the in box XHCI stack, we’ll have to temporarily disable Driver Signing Enforcement. To do this press the Windows key R and in the run box type:

shutdown.exe /r /o /f /t 00

Now make the following selections to boot into the Start Up Setting Screen

Troubleshoot — Advanced options — Start Up Settings — Restart

Then, when the machine restarts, select “Disable driver signature enforcement”. Your machine will start with Driver signing enforcement disabled until the next reboot.

When the machine restarts, open Device Manager (win r, devmgmt.msc). Double click on the entry for the Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller and select the Drivers tab. You should see that the driver provider is Microsoft.

Now click “Update Driver” and then select “Browse my computer for driver software”.

Next choose “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”.

Next, select “Have Disk”.

In the Window that pops up titled “Install From Disk” choose “Browse” and navigate to the location where we replace the original infs with the two modified .inf files we downloaded earlier. Select iusb3xhc.inf and click ok.

Windows will warn that the driver is not signed and will require you to confirm the installation.

Once the installation is complete, reboot the machine following the same procedure as above:

shutdown.exe /r /o /f /t 00

Now make the following selections to boot into the Start Up Setting Screen

Troubleshoot — Advanced options — Start Up Settings — Restart

When the machine starts, select “Disable driver signature enforcement”. Your machine will start with Driver signing enforcement disabled until the next reboot. Once logged in, open Device Manager (win r “devmgmt.msc”) and locate the entry under Other devices for an Unknown device, to find the correct one, double click on the entry for the unknown device view the details tab. Make sure it has the VID_8086.

Once you have located the correct device right click on it and choose “Update Driver” Choose “Browse my computer”, Windows will ask you to identify the type of device, scroll down and select “Universal Serial Bus Devices”.

Click next, choose “Have Disk”, “Browse” and select the modified iusb3hub.inf that we placed in the Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver\Drivers\Win7\x64\ folder earlier and click ok.

Again, Windows will warn about driver signing, when the install is finished, reboot your machine.

When it restarts look at the driver tab for the Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller and the Intel(R) USB 3.0 Root Hub to confirm that you are now running the Intel drivers.

To return to the built in Microsoft USB 3.0 driver stack, use the uninstall drivers button from the driver tab in device manager. When it’s finished, select the Action menu of Device Manager and “scan for hardware changes” Windows should find the Intel USB 3.0 host controller and re-install it using the built in Microsoft XHCI stack.

Thanks to Ekko for his original work on this. Please comment below if you have any corrections or refinements. We’d also love to have comments mentioning the problems you were having, and whether the Intel stack solved them for you Zombies.

Thanks!
